  1. Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Rub the orange zest into the dry ingredients with your fingertips.
  3. Beat the orange juice, egg and melted butter together in a second bowl.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry and fold just until the flour disappears.
  5. Fold in the halved cranberries and the walnuts.
  6. Scrape the thick batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Sprinkle the coarse sugar evenly across the surface.
  8. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, until the top is domed and split and a skewer comes out clean.
  9. Cool the loaf in the pan for 20 minutes.
  10. Turn it out onto a rack and cool it completely, then slice it thick.
