Ingredients
- 3 crisp apples such as Honeycrisp or Fuji, cored and diced
- 3 celery stalks, thinly sliced
- 1 cup red seedless grapes, halved
- 3/4 cup walnut halves, toasted and broken
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 large lettuce leaves for serving
Before you cook
- Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes and break them into pieces.
- Core and dice the apples into half-inch cubes, leaving the skins on for color.
- Slice the celery thin on a slight angle and halve the grapes.
Steps
- Whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, honey, salt, and pepper together in a large bowl.
- Add the diced apples immediately and toss, since the lemon in the dressing keeps them from browning.
- Fold in the celery and grapes.
- Chill the salad for 30 minutes so it is properly cold.
- Fold in the toasted walnuts just before serving so they stay crunchy.
- Spoon the salad onto lettuce leaves to serve, the way the Waldorf originally plated it.
