  1. Toast the bagel halves in a toaster or under the broiler until the cut sides are golden and just crisp at the edges.
  2. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese over each warm bagel half.
  3. Drape two or three folds of lox over the cream cheese on each half.
  4. Scatter a few onion rings over the salmon on each half.
  5. Sprinkle the capers evenly over the top.
  6. Finish with a few dill fronds and a crack of black pepper.
  7. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing.
