A Puerto Rican breakfast built from spiraled, egg-rich mallorca bread, buttered and pressed with ham and cheese, then dusted with powdered sugar.

Ingredients
- 4 pan de mallorca rolls or other soft egg-enriched sweet rolls, split
- 4 tablespoons softened butter
- 8 slices deli ham
- 8 slices Swiss or American cheese
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Before you cook
- Split each mallorca roll in half through the middle.
- Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat.
Steps
- Butter both cut sides of each split roll.
- Layer 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese onto the bottom half of each roll.
- Close the sandwiches with the top halves.
- Place the sandwiches on the hot griddle and press down gently with a spatula.
- Toast for 2 to 3 minutes per side, pressing occasionally, until golden and the cheese melts.
- Transfer the sandwiches to plates.
- Dust the tops generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve warm.
