The simple salad said to echo the colors of the Italian flag, built from nothing more than ripe tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and good olive oil.

Ingredients
- 4 large ripe tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick
- 1 lb (450g) fresh buffalo mozzarella, sliced 1/4-inch thick
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
- Flaky sea salt, to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
Before you cook
- Slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
- Slice the mozzarella into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
- Pat the mozzarella slices dry with paper towels.
Steps
- Arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices in alternating, slightly overlapping rows on a platter.
- Tuck whole basil leaves between the tomato and mozzarella slices.
- Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the arranged salad.
- Drizzle the balsamic glaze in thin lines over the top.
- Sprinkle flaky sea salt and black pepper over the salad.
- Serve immediately at room temperature.
